[Vampire: The Requiem] Invite Only

Wed, 07/28/2010 - 03:43
Singular vampires are so many terrible things.

Why should it be any different when many vampires get together? It isn't. In fact, it's exponentially worse. Kindred are designed to be solitary predators.
Why they gather in such large groups is a complicated issue. Are they lonely? Do they need to keep enemies within arms' reach? Do they need to understand the other creatures that inhabit their homes? Do they believe in safety in numbers?
This book specifically addresses how to build an interaction. It's how to host a party, how to make a location and how to make a social structure.

A PDF-exclusive chronicle book for Vampire: The Requiem.

• A handful of fully fleshed social hotspots you can plug into or adapt your chronicle.
• Play variants and tweaks, Merits, Devotions and other character items built around Kindred social gatherings.
• A handful of plug-and-play scenes in the SAS format.
• Options for a social combat system.

Invite Only is now available at RPGNow.com.

Myth and Magic Starter Kit Now Available

Sun, 07/25/2010 - 23:52
New Haven Games today introduced the MYTH & MAGIC Starter Kit, a free, 128-page teaser for their MYTH & MAGIC Role Playing Game.

MYTH & MAGIC is a remake and expansion of the 1989 Second Edition rules. The Starter Kit is a two-part, 128 page book. The player's section has four classes and four races. It allows you to build a character and play through 5th level. It contains an almost-complete equipment chapter and spells of 1st to 3rd level. The Game Master's section has 25 iconic monsters, over 100 magical items and weapons suitable for low level play, and advice for building encounters and adventures. “With a still-thriving 2E player base, this is a product that is long overdue,” said TOM RYAN, Lead Designer at NEW HAVEN GAMES. “The good portions of the 1989 rules remain, while the bad and/or complicated rules have been refashioned using slicker design. MYTH & MAGIC is fun for both old school and new school gamers and has the added value of resurrecting an already vast library of support material and campaigns.”

The Starter Kit was released exclusively, on July 15th, to members of the New Haven Games website, and initial reactions to the game have been overwhelmingly positive. One New Haven member (Calimar) says in a review: “So far I have been quite impressed with the starter kit for Myth & Magic. It captures the feel…while at the same time giving the rules a refreshing update.”

[Call of Cthulhu] Secrets of New Orleans & more!

Tue, 07/20/2010 - 02:48
A 1920's Sourcebook to the Crescent City

NEW ORLEANS IN THE 1920s is a city of many faces. The gaiety of Mardi Gras is juxtaposed with the rampant corruption that earned New Orleans the nickname "The City That Care Forgot." The genteel decline of the French Quarter, the location of the city's original settlement, stands in contrast to the rich opulence of the Garden District, where the Americans later built their mansions. Voodoo and Catholicism exist peacefully side by side. And beneath it all, the face of the Mythos can sometimes be glimpsed.

This guidebook includes detailed chapters on: the history of New Orleans, the French Quarter and the greater city, and the bayous and coastal area. A chapter on voodoo includes guidelines for integrating it into Call of Cthulhu. New occupations unique to the Crescent City and the area are suggested, and five secret societies are covered. A scenario designed to acquaint investigators with most of New Orleans' areas completes the book.

World of Darkness: Mirrors

Mon, 07/19/2010 - 01:46
What would I be, if God wanted me to be something different? I would be whatever God saw fit to make me.
I would be a crow picking at the bones of the dead. I would be a worm nestled in the heart of my enemies.
I would be a faceless angel. I would be a rabid wolf. I would be a broken mirror.
But make no mistake, my children.
Whatever God sees fit for me, one thing will never change. I will always be a monster.
- Solomon Birch

Steampunk Musha Kickstarter!

Tue, 07/13/2010 - 00:14
After years of development and design, we are ready to take the next steps in launching the Steampunk Musha property. Our goal is to launch the website and present our first two setting inspired products. The first will be a tabletop roleplaying game featuring the Steampunk Musha setting and utilizing a game system designed entirely for use with the setting. The second product will be the first in a series of graphic novels depicting the stories and characters of Rosuto-Shima (the island setting of Steampunk Musha).

The initial design for the rpg is complete and tons of design notes have been compiled. We plan on finishing the system design and utilizing the extensive setting knowledge of the Empty Room Studio contributors. We also plan on creating high end artwork that demonstrates the rich setting and fully compliments the concepts and designs of the world. Through are many contacts and clients, we will be utilizing a third party publisher to distribute physical copies of the book into stores, while selling the PDF version and support material ourselves.

Crucifiction Games Sells Movie Rights for Novel Based on "Horror Rules" RPG

Sat, 07/10/2010 - 13:29
Author Chris Weedin of Crucifiction Games has accepted an offer from A Ferris Wheel Films to option the movie rights for his book "Midnight Snack (Graveyard Shift: the Adventures of Carson Dudley, Book 1)", which is based on the popular horror-comedy roleplaying game "Horror Rules." The film production company, located in London, England, has stated its intention to produce a feature length film adaptation of "Midnight Snack" and plans to approach major film studios with the project. They have further announced plans for this to be the first in a film trilogy. Weedin has also accepted a separate offer to write the movie treatment for the book. The two parties are discussing the possibility that Weedin will continue on to write the script as well. The treatment is currently underway and both parties expect it will be completed by July of this year.

Themed as a vampire-horror-comedy, "Midnight Snack" is the story of a group of oddball vampire hunters who face off against a seductive vampiress in the fictional town of Las Calamas, CA. The plot centers around a mini-mart which the vampiress has chosen as her hunting grounds. The action in the book is fast-paced and tongue-in-cheek, elements which both Weedin and A Ferris Wheel Films have promised will be carried through to the movie. The book was released in 2009 and is available through major retailers such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble or in electronic format on the Kindle, Kobo or through Smashwords.com. It is available for distribution through Ingram.

Weedin has previously announced that a second book in his "Graveyard Shift: the Adventures of Carson Dudley" series will be forthcoming in 2011. The book will be titled "Another Rotten Night" and continues the adventures of the main characters from the first book as they battle the forces of supernatural in the fictional town of Las Calamas. He plans to write seven books for the series. The books are based on Weedin's popular horror-comedy roleplaying game "Horror Rules", a send-up of b-movie horror films. They are available at RPGNow.com, Amazon.com and other retail and Internet outlets.

Terrors From Beyond for Call of Cthulhu

Fri, 07/09/2010 - 14:57
Nightmares Unraveled in Six Scenarios

Perched on a bleak and inhospitable rock off the coast of Scotland, the Hallowsay Light has guided sailors for over seventy years. Now its beacon has gone inexplicably dark, imperiling the ships that ply the waters of the North Atlantic. The news has reached the lighthouse tender Helios, already steaming toward the island of Hallowsay for its fortnightly relief of the station. A search party, made up of three volunteers from the crew of the Helios and a relief keeper, is sent to investigate. What awaits them are horrors from beyond!

TERRORS FROM BEYOND is a collection of 1920's and 30's adventures for Call of Cthulhu, designed for play with pre-generated characters. The book provides fine opportunities for an impromptu game or tournament play and — because the characters are intimately connected with the plot — roleplaying challenges not normally available in most published material. An excellent adventure collection for new and veteran Call of Cthulhu players alike.

Terrors From Beyond is available at RPGNow.com.

Mage Chronicler's Guide

Wed, 07/07/2010 - 03:55
Reality is glass, is gingerbread and sugar, is chalk. We break pieces away. We take pieces apart. We reassemble them to suit ourselves. The seams are there for those with the eyes to see. The flaws are there for those with the hands to split them. The configurations are born from those with the minds and wills to create them. This is how it has always been. This is how it will aways be.

- Virbius, King Under the Branches, Thyrsus seer

This book includes:
• A variety of different approaches to the Mage chronicle, from genres such as noir and action to the concept of tiers of power • Variant interpretations of the magic system, such as Weird Science or psychic powers
• Enhancing the player-focused facets of the game, sample chronicles, and more
